If are an Apple fan, then you know there are two primary events per year that we all look forward to. The first is WWDC. The second is the announcement of the new iPhones. Well, now it’s time for big day number two. Apple’s livestream on their site and via Twitter will break news of their latest new smartphones, as well as a few other items in real time. Tune in at 10 AM Pacific to catch all the action live.
We have a few 11th hour reports on what we will get tomorrow, and some things we might not.
Not so fast
I was very disappointed to see reports that Apple will NOT be including USB-C fast chargers with the new iPhones, This news comes from both Ming-Chi Kuo and 9to5Mac, and is likely accurate. I guess earlier reports that Apple would be giving us fast charging out of the box were either confusing the news of the iPad Pro getting one, or based on Apple considering this, but deciding against it. The bottom line is this- Apple is blowing a chance to catch up here to save a few bucks. The rest of the industry has been including fast chargers with their devices for a couple of years now.
There are plenty of people who are skeptical of Apple making dual SIM versions of the new iPhones. However, the rumor is still making the rounds. This would be a first for Apple, but we know how much they value growth in China. Dual SIM phones are popular and much more common in the Far East, so I think there is a very good possibility this happens, even if it is limited to China and a few other countries.
Macs and iPads a no-show?
According to Mark Gurman, Apple’s big event may be all about the iPhones and Watches, with all of Apple’s other rumored new hardware coming in the following months. Opinion among Apple experts has gone back and forth on what will or won’t make this event, from nothing but the iPhones, to an all out free-for-all with three new iPhones, a Watch, two new iPad Pros, the AirPower, and new AirPods. Considering the source, it looks like the truth will fall somewhere in-between.
Get ready for a noticeable jump in Apple Watch prices thank to the president’s tariffs on China. Gene Munster of Loup Insight says that the prices of the Apple Watchs and AirPods will be increasing by 10-20%. 20% takes a current Series 3 from $329 all the way to $394.80. Ouch.
I would not be surprised to see Apple release the MacBook, AirPower, and AirPods in press releases over the next month and a half. However, the iPad Pro looks like it will be changing enough that an event would actually be warranted. Is Apple going to drag the tech press to another event this Fall? Who knows, but if Gurman is saying there will be a delay, then probably so.
I have crossed the midnight barrier as I write, so that’s the latest news for today’s big event. What do you think? Let me know on Flipboard, our Facebook page, on Twitter, or on our new Instagram account. I’ll be back tomorrow with all the big Apple news.
