Powerbeats Pro Pre-Orders Start Friday. Are They a Better Fit For You?

Apple’s AirPods may currently be the most popular wireless earbuds money can buy, but they aren’t for everyone. My wife is a perfect example, as they just don’t fit properly in her ears. Apple’s buds never have, so they’ve never been a good choice for her. As handy and versatile as AirPods are for someone like me, it doesn’t really matter if they don’t fit well.

While there have been other Beats products based on the W1 chip in the original AirPods, none of them offered the completely wireless experience found in their Apple counterpart. That has now changed with the coming of the Beats Powerbeats Pro. These new wireless buds share the same completely wireless design and H1 wireless chip that you will find in the newly updated AirPods.

Despite the similarities, there are some unique aspects of the Powerbeats Pro that set them apart from Apple’s AirPods. These buds come with a more traditional in-ear design with lots of flexibility and four tips of different sizes. This is perfect for those who have issues with how AirPods fit their ears. The Powerbeats Pro are also designed to stay in place no matter what thanks to their behind-the-ear hooks. This alleviates another of the biggest concerns some have with the AirPods. Add in sweat resistance and you have pretty much the perfect workout buds. Or the perfect Apple counterpoint to the AirPods for someone like my wife.

If the Powerbeats Pro sound more like your cup of tea, then you won’t have to wait much longer. While other colors won’t be available until the Summer, the black version of the Powerbeats Pro will go up for pre-order this Friday, May 3rd, with first delivery set for Friday, May 10th. If Pre-orders aren’t your thing, then just take a run by your local Apple Store or Best Buy on 5/10 and maybe you’ll be able to put your hands on a pair.

Now for the downside- the price. The Powerbeats definitely have the AirPods beat here too, but not in  a good way. They clock in at a very healthy $249.95. You do get more features, but I can’t deny that’s a high price to pay. Hopefully these new buds are good enough to justify the extra coin they will set you back.
