Opinion: Apple Needs to Add the iPhone 5S to their $29 Battery Replacement Offer

Just yesterday I suggested that Apple should cut back to offering just two iOS upgrades per device starting this year, so it may sound like I’m talking out of sides of my mouth with today’s suggestion that Apple should be more generous in its attempt to appease unhappy iPhone users. However, yesterday’s post was just a New Year’s Resolution, and it’s no big deal that 99.9% of them are completely unrealistic, right? We all know there’s no way Apple will be taking my crazy advise. However, back here in the real world, Apple is still getting shelled over the self-inflicted issue of iPhone battery watching and device throttling. They could use a few realistic pointers to put this thing to bed, since they haven’t managed to do it on their own yet.

2018 Predictions and Resolutions: Reining in iOS Upgrades for Older iPhones

First off, Happy New Year!!

As we start out 2018, I am going to be covering a few New Year’s Resolutions and Predictions for Apple. First off today, I’m going to make a suggestion that may be a little controversial. In 2018, I believe that Apple should resolve to take a hard look at how they support legacy iPhone hardware for the good of both themselves, and their customers. More specifically, my suggestion is that Apple limit all iPhones to no more than two iOS upgrades going forward.

Apple Responds to Complaints over iPhone Slowdowns, Cuts Battery Replacements to Only $29

Apple tends to be a tight-lipped company, controlling the news and the narrative around them and their products whenever possible. However, sometimes that isn’t possible, and the recent customer dissatisfaction and negative press bonanza over their decision to throttle the processors of iPhones with worn batteries certainly qualifies. They responded publicly last week to admit to the practice of slowing phones with worn batteries to prevent usage peaks and shutdowns for the safety of internal components. Even though there are legitimate reasons for their actions, Apple’s admission to adding this “feature” went over like a lead balloon with many users and members of the tech press. Today, they responded again.

Apple Wins the Holiday Season According to Flurry Analytics

Flurry Analytics, which according to their own estimates “is used by over 1 million apps and has insight into 2.1 billion devices worldwide,” has declared Apple the winner of the gift-giving season. Just like last year, Apple took 44% of smartphone activations during the week leading up to Christmas, significantly ahead of Samsung at 26%. Google, with their new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, is notably absent from this chart despite an uptick in their own activations over the holidays.

The Health Monitoring Capabilities and Potential of the Apple Watch are Coming into Clearer Focus

Apple has made it clear that they now see the Watch as primarily being a fitness tracker and health monitoring device. While it runs apps and fills several other roles, these are now its primary functions and we can see that most of their development and new features are focused on these areas. There have been a few reports that have come to light over the last few months that show both how other companies are building on the Watch as a platform and where Apple may be going next.
