One of the best things about using an iPad is all the great apps that we can run on it. There are excellent apps for just about any purpose you can think of. Better still, there are lots of great free apps for the iPad. Our Best Free iPad App of the Week posts highlight these apps.

This week’s pick is GoComics, which offers a treasure trove of great comics – from old classics to the latest up and coming strips. Here’s a slice of its App Store description:

Want funny? Love comics? We’ve got your fix. The GoComics app, from Universal Uclick, is the mobile comics portal for many of the most popular comic strips worldwide. From iconic favorites like Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts, Garfield, Doonesbury, Dilbert and Marmaduke to modern favorites like FoxTrot, The Boondocks, Big Nate, Pearls Before Swine and Get Fuzzy, we offer the most diverse set of comic strips and panels in one single app for FREE.

The app’s content is updated daily, with all the latest strips from its superb range of comic titles. And there’s also more than 20 years worth of back issues of some of those classic comic strips mentioned above.

As you can see in the screenshots, the app is ad supported, but the banner ads at the bottom of its pages aren’t too intrusive. You can get rid of them with an In-App purchase of the Pro version.

You can book mark your favorite comics and share via Twitter, email or Messages.
