One of the best things about using an iPad is all the great apps that we can run on it. There are excellent apps for just about any purpose you can think of. Better still, there are lots of great free apps for the iPad. Our Best Free iPad App of the Week posts highlight these apps.

This week’s pick is Google+, the iPad app for Google’s social network. It took Google a long time to bring out an iPad version of Google+ but it turned out to be worth the wait – and I’ve ben meaning to feature it as a Best iPad App of the Week here for a long while now.

I was fortunate enough to get an early Google+ invite right around its initial beta launch. I liked it right from the off and it has become my favorite social network. I find myself spending more and more time on Google+, as I enjoy the lively discussions on a wide range of topics that interest me. And the excellent Google+ iPad app helps me to keep up with all the latest anytime, anywhere.

The Google+ iPad app looks great in both portrait and landscape modes, and the UI is clean and easy to navigate around. It’s easy to move between the main stream, my own profile page, the excellent Google+ Communities, photo albums, events, and Hangouts via an elegant, auto-hidden sidebar.

In the iPad app I can do nearly everything I frequently do in a desktop browser on Google+. From creating new posts and sharing photos to +1ing a post or comment, to moderating the communities that I run.

The app also has a very good inline browser – so I don’t feel like I need to leave the app to enjoy linked articles in posts.  And of course all the wonderful photos that get shared on Google+ look great in the iPad app.

Here’s an App Store link for Google+; it’s a universal app designed to run on both iPad and iPhone.
