Netflix

One of the best things about using an iPad is all the great apps that we can run on it. There are excellent apps for just about any purpose you can think of. Better still, there are lots of great free apps for the iPad. Our Best Free iPad App of the Week posts highlight these apps.

This week’s pick is Netflix for iPad, the iPad app for the popular subscription service for movies and TV shows. Netflix provides unlimited access to its collection of movies and TV shows for a low monthly fee (around $8) and offers a one-month free trial.

The Netflix iPad app gives you that same unlimited access on your favorite tablet.

The app’s interface is very basic and makes it very easy to find great content. The main screen shows a ‘Continue Watching’ panel for anything you began watching and didn’t yet finish, a suggested Top 10 based on your past selections, your Instant Queue, Popular on Netflix, New Releases, categories you’ve recently looked at, more suggestion sets based on individual shows you’ve watched, and more.

There’s a left sidebar to Browse by genre that can be hidden or shown with a single tap. Genres include TV shows, Action & Adventure, Comedies, Dramas, Foreign, Thrillers, and more. There’s also a good Just for Kids section. There are thousands of titles and new content is added continually.

There’s also a search bar to help find whatever you’re after – and you can rate favorite content to help the app refine its suggestions.

If you’ve got an Apple TV or another set-top box that supports Netflix, you can start watching a movie or show on the iPad and continue right where you leave off on a TV.

Here’s an App Store link for Netflix; it’s a universal app designed for both iPad and iPhone.
