One of the best things about using an iPad is all the great apps that we can run on it. There are excellent apps for just about any purpose you can think of. Better still, there are lots of great free apps for the iPad. Our Best Free iPad App of the Week posts highlight these apps.
This week’s pick is Snapguide, the iPad app for the popular collection of step-by-step how to guides. Here’s a little slice of the App Store details on Snapguide:
Snapguide is a simple, beautiful way to share and view step-by-step how to guides. Discover new things to cook, build, wear, play and more. Create your own guides and share what you love making with your friends on Twitter, Facebook and more. Discuss your interests with other people who share your passions.
I’d heard of Snapguides before but never really looked at them much until I tried out this app, and boy am I glad I’ve discovered them now. The guides cover a good, broad range of topics and this app showcases them beautifully.
The app prompts you to sign in when you open it for the first time. You can do so via Facebook, Twitter or just by signing up for a free account, or you can skip it and just jump into the guides. I ended up going back to create an account because that allows me to save favorite guides – and I already have lots.
Snapguide’s UI is clever, intuitive to use, and very elegant. A minimal pulldown bar towards the top left gives you one-tap access to the app’s main sections. These are: Search, your own Profile, Featured, Topics, Popular, Recent, Activity (with tabs for Everyone, Friends, and You), Find Friends, and Create a Guide. So there’s lots of fun ways to browse when you just want to discover new things – with the featured, recent, popular, and activity sections.
I’m a rookie to Snapguide, but it looks like the Create a Guide section is quite nice too.
If you’re wanting to look for more specific items the Topics include Arts & Crafts, Automotive, Beauty, Drinks, Food, Games & Tricks, Gardening, Home, Music, Pets, Photography, Sports & Fitness, Technology, and more.
One of the things that struck me right away with this app is how big, bold and gorgeous the individual guides are. This really makes it a pleasure to browse and read them.
The guides are also well written and very clear and easy to follow. No wonder these are so popular.
I’m impressed with the Technology section too – it has lots of good stuff for iOS and Mac fans.
As I said above, I’ve already favorited quite a few snapguides and I know I’ll be getting good use out of them. Snapguide is a pleasure to browse through and it’s chick full of great, useful guides – that’s a heck of a nice combo.
Here’s an App Store link for Snapguide; it’s a universal app too, so it will run on iPad and iPhone.
