One of the best things about using an iPad is all the great apps that we can run on it. There are excellent apps for just about any purpose you can think of. Better still, there are lots of great free apps for the iPad. Our Best Free iPad App of the Week posts highlight these apps.
This week’s pick is Solar Walk – Saturn, a gorgeous app that lets you explore Saturn and its moons.
The app opens to a stunning view of Saturn and is captivating to use right from the off. It’s the little sibling of the wonderful Solar Walk 3D Solar System app, focused on the just the one ringed planet.
The app’s interface is as simple as it gets and navigating around it is easy and fun. Single taps toggle on-screen controls on and off, or let you zoom in on Saturn or one of its moons. Another single tap will toggle on and off popover information text for each object – which includes details like mass, radius, distance to the sun, and internal structure.
Here are a few of its other notable features:
• GALAXY view – absolutely magical zoom out to view the whole galaxy option.
• TIME MACHINE – set any date you want including even minutes and take a travel through space and time.
• MIRRORING – wirelessly mirror the screen to an Apple TV 2.
• 3D MODE – to enjoy the view on 3D TV
Saturn has always seemed like one of the most fascinating in our solar system, and this is a great family app for exploring it and learning more about it.
