Best Free iPad App of the Week: Terra Web Browser

Terra Web Browser for iPad

Who doesn’t like free? And who doesn’t like great iPad apps? When the two come together it’s good stuff. With that in mind, we’d like to share our Best Free iPad App of the Week here every weekend.

This week’s pick is Terra Web Browser, by Readdle. I don’t generally mention the developer of an app right away in a post like this, but it’s worth doing so here because Readdle make a number of stellar apps for the iPad – including ReadlleDocs, PDF Expert, and Printer Pro.

And Terra Web Browser is one of their best. It’s an alternative web browser for the iPad with some great power features, including tabbed browsing with unlimited tabs, find in page, and the ability to save pages to read offline.

One of my favorite features in the app is its full-screen browsing mode – which works great and can be toggled on and off with a single tap.

Another notable feature is its use of swipe gestures – with these you can use a four finger swipe to move between tabs (though I’m not sure if this one will survive once iOS 5 is released).

I also like its good range of sharing options – that includes email, Facebook, Twitter, Readitlater, and Instapaper.

Mobile Safari is an excellent browser, but I think it’s always handy to have alternatives, as it is on the desktop – especially when they’re free and offer some powerful features.

Here’s an App Store link for Terra Web Browser.

  1. I hate mobile safari because it lacks two essential features : tabs and background opening.

So I dabbled with a lot of alternative browsers, including Terra. It’s quite good,, but I prefer Sleipnir, which is a bit faster, comes with handy gestures and a better bookmark bar.

    It’s also free, try it.
