Who doesn’t like great iPad apps? At iPad Insight we definitely do. With that in mind, we offer up a quick review of an excellent iPad app, or a few great iPad apps, here each week.
Our weekly picks for Best iPad App of the Week are published here every Saturday. Check out all our picks via the link at the end of this post and you’ll soon have a collection of stellar apps for your favorite tablet.
This week’s pick is Amount, a simple and lightweight unit converter app. Want to quickly see what 20 dollars is worth in British pounds? Or what 1 cup is equal to in fluid ounces? How many miles are equal to 100 kilometers? Amount is your friend – for these and lots more similar sort of quick conversions.
The app has a very minimal UI, but it really doesn’t need any bells and whistles to do what it does. You just tap to select from one of the 26 categories and then browse the comparisons or tap again to edit a number and see the results. For instance, in the Temperature section edit the Celsius number to –5 and you instantly see that translate to 23 degrees Fahrenheit.
Or check out how bits and bytes and megabytes add up with a few taps.
Amount has over 500 units in these categories: Angles, Area, Cooking, Currency, Data, Density, Electric current, Energy, Force, Frequency, Fuel Consumption, Illuminance, Length/Distance, Luminance, Metric System, Network speed, Power, Pressure, Radiation, Speed, Temperature, Time, Torque, Typography, Volume and Weight/Mass.
This might not be an app you use every day, but it will sure come in handy when you have a comparison to make in one of these areas.
Here’s an App Store link for Amount: it’s priced at $0.99 and is a universal app which runs on both iPad and iPhone.
