Who doesn’t like great iPad apps? At iPad Insight we definitely do. With that in mind, we offer up a quick review of an excellent iPad app, or a few great iPad apps, here each week.

Our picks for Best iPad App of the Week are published here every week. Check out all out picks below and you’ll soon have a collection of stellar apps for your favorite tablet.

This week’s pick is Angry Birds 2 by Rovio Entertainment.  With the sequel to one of the most popular mobile games ever released it’s all about the extras.  Rovio has added new multi-stage levels, bigger and better slingshot gameplay, Pig boss battles and a big improvements to the graphics engine.  Are these improvements  enough for you to download this epic sequel?

The Angry Birds are back with a vengeance, and those pesky pigs don’t stand a chance.  New, notable improvements to gameplay include the choice of which bird you launch, and in what order you would like to launch them, challenging levels that you need to complete in sequence to move on, and those epic battles wit the Pig Bosses!  Rovio describes some of these improvements in greater detail…

It’s the ultimate slingshot action strategy – YOU choose which bird to fling next! “But that makes it easier, right?” WRONG! You’ll need to choose wisely if you’re going to stop those eggs from getting scrambled. Plus, crush those pigs and blocks to fill up the Destruct-O-Meter and earn extra birds!

You’ve never seen Piggy Island like this – jaw-droppingly stunning levels brimming with exotic plants, quirky details, fun animations and plenty of peril. Those naughty porkies are now experts at building physics defying towers: levels now have multiple stages for an added challenge. Uh oh.

There’s some serious bad guys on Piggy Island, and your slingshot skills are needed to take them down. Foreman Pig, Chef Pig and the infamous King Pig will stop at nothing to keep your eggs. Are you gonna let ‘em get away with that? It’s time to hit that pork and teach ‘em a lesson.

Although there are many reasons to like Angry Birds 2, like the fun as always gameplay, improved graphics, multi-level challenges, and more control of your birds, there are a few items to note that might turn some hard-core fans into skeptics.  Angry Birds 2 is now a Freemium App.  For those not familiar with the term–this is a reference to an app that is offered for free, but makes it frustrating for casual users to continue gameplay without paying for upgrades along the way.

While in-app purchases are not a requirement for playing AB2, without them, patience is a virtue.  If you run out of birds at any time during the game, you will have to wait a pre-determined amount of time for your arsenal to “refresh” on its own.  I had hoped that they would offer a one-time cost to eliminate this requirement form the game, as it is frustrating at time.  We’ll just have to wait and see if this option comes later with an update–but I wouldn’t hold my breath.  All in all, AB2 is still a lot of fun to play, especially if you’re already familiar with the gameplay style.  Here’s an App Store link for Angry Birds 2.
