As I said in one of my previous articles on the new AirPods Pro, I don’t have a lot of past experience with active noise cancelling or reducing headphones. Because of this, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first got them. Just like many others, I have been very impressed with how much sound they block for their small size and how much more immersive the listening experience is because of that.
Week one with the new AirPods Pro has been really good, overall. They basically take all of the strengths of the original AirPods and add to them in meaningful ways. Because of this, Apple’s newest earbuds have received almost universal praise, with only repairability and difficulty in recycling them being the only major complaints. My own experience is pretty close, so far.
In honor of the release of Apple’s new AirPods Pro, here is a condensed guide to the different controls that are available and the settings that govern them.
So I ended up getting my AirPods Pro on launch day after all! When I purchased them, my order notification said they would arrive tomorrow and the notification on the Apple Store app still said the same this afternoon. However, when I checked the tracking info after leaving work, low and behold they were out for delivery and headed my way.
I thought that my wife would love the new Powerbeats Pro wireless earbuds from Apple, but there is no way to be sure about these things. I’ve been wrong before in guessing my wife’s tastes. Even after almost 22 years of marriage, I still don’t have all the answers and I’m sure any husband can relate to that. She can be on the picky side about certain things and it just happens that things she puts on or in her ears are among them.
After seven months without a pair, I guess I forgot just how much I enjoy using Apple’s AirPods. That enjoyment, in turn, feeds into how much I use them. The convenience factor and solid battery life make extended use pretty much inevitable, and that has definitely been the case over the last week.
I was out of town most of this week for a work conference, but I got back late last night to brand new Apple goodies. New AirPods, a new iPad Air and new iPad Mini had all arrived over the previous two days and were waiting for me when I got home.
If you haven’t read one of the MANY times I have written about this over the last few months, I managed to lose my original AirPods last August. I used them to listen to music every night as I went to sleep so I could charge my iPhone overnight. They would inevitably fall out before morning, but I got in the habit of tracking them down as soon as I woke up.

If you have been reading here since late last year, you know I am getting twitchy waiting for Apple to release their refreshed AirPods. I lost mine last Summer and there were enough rumors that a small refresh that would feature wireless charging and Hey Siri support would be coming by the Fall that I held off replacing them. This was in early August, so it wouldn’t be that long, right?
A little over a month ago, my wife and I had our 21 year wedding anniversary. We celebrated with a couple of evenings away from home, which was welcomed. We had a nice, romantic dinner. We relaxed. It was great…except for one small detail. We returned home on Sunday, and that night I opened my AirPods case like I always do to get my AirPods before going to sleep. It was empty.
