The critics have really had a blast taking their shots at AppleTV+. Apple is an outsider and relative latecomer that showed up throwing around cash trying to get a new streaming video service off the ground, that was bound to happen. The fact that a couple of their high profile initial slate of shows got off to slow starts didn’t help, but things did at least stabilize over time.
Almost two months in, Apple seems to be shaking some of the haters off its TV+ streaming service and its content. To be fair, some of the early shows did get off to rough, or at least boring and maybe confusing, starts. However, For All Mankind was good right from the jump and after a meandering opening two episodes, The Morning Show ended up really turning the tables on the mediocre to bad opening opiniond with a strong close and very solid reviews from watchers.
The reviews came in over the last week (and many of them weren’t kind), but Apple TV+ finally arrived for the rest of us yesterday. I got home from work late, so I was only able to check out one show after signing up for my free trial.
Out of the opening lineup of shows, For All Mankind is really the only one that stands out as something I would be interested in, so I decided to start there. I will take a look at the others later, but I actually wanted to see watch this show and I wasn’t disappointed. If you are worried about spoilers below, don’t be. I’ll keep it general.
From the fun, quirky and diverse characters to the cool of the laid-back West-Coast Jazz soundtracks, I have loved all of the Peanuts specials and movies since I was a kid. Is any cartoon character more loveable and easier to root for than good-old Charlie Brown? Is any cartoon dog more fun than Snoopy? Do not @ me on this.
