Apple Watch Series 3 Observations- Part 2

Rather than a single 3,000 word review, I am going to just keep on gradually logging thoughts and observations on the new Apple Watch Series 3 as I use it. For today, I’ve been using the Watch as my primary communications device, but I’ve just been running errands, walking around the local Farmer’s Market, and now I am at home watching College Football with my Dad. In other words, I haven’t been hamming away trying to test every feature on the Watch today. This has been more of an example of typical, real-world use.

Apple Watch Series 3 Initial Thoughts

Like all of the other early risers who wanted to be sure to get their Apple Watch Series 3 orders in, I got my Apple Watches today. I got both the Black Sport with the new Sport Loop band, and the Gold Sport with the Pink Sand Sport Band. I actually meant to order the Gold model with its corresponding Sport Loop, but I think I got a little punchy and mixed up at 2:05 AM. Oops.

Apple Watch Series 3 GPS + Cellular is a Preorder Sellout

Evidently the higher prices didn’t keep customers away from Apple’s new flagship Watches as preorders started Friday morning. Even though the Apple Watch Sport models range from $329 for the 38mm with Sport Band to $429 for the 42mm, they are all sold out. I just went through all of the models in both sizes using the Apple Watch app and most are listed at three to four week availability, with some out to four or five weeks, A few are even pushed out to October at this point.

Is It Time For an Apple Watch Upgrade Program?

In 2015, Apple decided to shake things up a bit in the cell phone market. They launched an invasion into the territory of cell service providers by offering the iPhone Upgrade Program. The program is similar to the installment plans that all of the major US cell carriers started offering a year or two before, but a couple of major distinguishing factors. First off, the phones come unlocked, and can be used with any of the major carriers. Second, the phones arrive covered by AppleCare+, which offers up to two reasonably priced repairs per year for accidental damage with small deductibles.

Apple Watch in Action- Part 2

In part one, I took a look at one promising new feature of the Apple Watch in the new Siri Watch Face. I also talked about one not so good area in the current app situation for the platform. As I continue to play with the watchOS 4 beta, and the rumors of a coming hardware refresh continue to swirl, now is a good time to jump back in and look at more good and bad of the Apple Watch.

Apple Watch In Action- Part 1

I’ve been using an Apple Watch since release day, other than a very brief period after I sold my first gen and thought I was moving on. It seems that the Watch was a little stickier than I thought it would be, and I ended up buying another one soon after and have kept one on my wrist since. Even with the flaws of the Series 0 hardware and watchOS 1 and 2, I found myself missing the instant notifications on my wrist, music control, and the ability to triage messages. After two weeks, I just got tired of looking down at an empty wrist.

Apple Watch Series 3 Coming Before the End of the Year?

This week brought us a couple of reports that a new Watch will be coming sooner than many tech experts thought. The Series 1 and 2 Apple Watches were released in September of 2016, and as with the 1st Gen, or Series 0 Watch as some call it, there was reason to think Apple would give them more than a just a one year product cycle. However, according to both Mark Gurman and others at Bloomberg and John Gruber of Daring Fireball, a new Apple Watch will be here before the end of the year.
