Katana Jack is a fun-looking new iPad game set to launch on the App Store later this week, on November 17. What’s unique and fascinating about the game is that it’s the ‘first game painted on the iPad to be played on the iPad’.

Here’s a little more detail on the game itself and the wonderful artwork for it:

All of the photorealistic artwork was finger-painted by Xoan Baltar using Brushes for iPad and the game shows how this artwork was created with 28 included videos.

Katana Jack is a great tribute to the classical platform game "Bomb Jack" and will let you relive the adventures of Jack going through the most beautiful scenery in Japan.

Xoan Baltar is an incredible digital artist who is a long-time favorite of mine. I featured some of his amazing work on the iPhone way back when I started my little Just iPhone Art site back in 2009. I love the idea that his amazing artwork, all created on an iPad, will now light up a new iPad game. I’m not much of a gamer, but I’ll buy this one just to enjoy the art.

Katana Jack will be released on November 17 as a universal app for both iPad and iPhone, and will be priced at $0.99. Look out for it – and in the meantime check out the game’s site for a video demo, details on features, and lots of screenshots.
