My New iPad – Reserved at My Local Apple Store

I’ve got my iPad reserved, to pickup at my closest Apple store (about 5 miles away) on the April 3rd launch day.  I’ve been told by an Apple phone sales rep that this can only be done online, not in the physical stores themselves – and that’s how I got it done this morning, via the link mentioned in my earlier post.

There’s a lot of confusion this morning about whether reserving an iPad at a local store this way means you are * guaranteed * to get one on April 3rd or not.  I’ve seen people on Twitter and forums saying they’ve been told it is not guaranteed.

To my mind, the wording of the reservation form, and of the emailed confirmation I received, clearly say this is a definite, not a maybe.  The only qualifier I see to that is that you must show up at your chosen store by 3 p.m. on April 3rd.  So if your local store is going to be crazy on the day, some camping out / lining up may be required.  I can live with that. iPad – come to papa. :)

  1. Correction: You need to be IN the store and asking for your iPad by 3 pm. I'm sure that standing outside in a huge "WTF I didn't expect it to be so long" line won't count…. :-)

    1. Oh, that's what I meant. That's why I mentioned the part about lining up probably being required. I plan to be there way early and line up and hope they will process people with reserved units first.

  2. If you have FedEx Saturday delivery in your area (I'm looking at you Patrick) why would you subject yourself to circus at your local Apple store April 3rd? I did the wait in line thing when the iPhone 3G came out….for 8 hours in the Austin, Texas sun. Not a fun thing to do…..or particularly bright for that matter. When the 3GS was released and I was given the option of having it delivered to my doorstep on the day of release I jumped at it. I sat in the comfort of my air conditioned home and did things around my house and had my 3GS delivered by 11AM!

    1. Because I heard too many stories last year at the 3GS launch of people who pre-ordered and were promised delivery on the launch Friday and then ended up waiting several more days to receive them. I know of quite a few folks that happened to. That would drive me up the wall. I'd rather do a bit of lining up in the very early morning. My nearest store is at a mall, so there shouldn't be any waiting in the Texas sun either.

      1. Yeah a delivery delay would drive me nuts too. I noticed
later the screen cap you posted said Barton
        Creek….good choice.
