OT: Slower Posting for a Bit

by on June 15, 2010 in General

LetsGo

I won’t be posting much today or perhaps for a few days here.  Just found out this morning that my lovely Labrador, my Chief Deputy Dawg Editor here, has to be euthanized – probably tomorrow.

He’s not that old a dog (7.5 years old) but he’s been very ill for a couple weeks now.  I’m very shocked and very sad of course.  I’ve had dogs all through my life, but none as gentle and sweet (and wonderful with my daughter and kids) as this guy.  I’ll miss him tons.

Sorry for you, I also had that experience recently. I love dogs as I have eight right now. This year I lost a Fila female (11 years old). Have a nice day.

That is horrible. So sorry. What is wrong with him? Seems young.

I really feel for you Patrick; that's very sad news. As a long-time dog "owner" and father myself I'm very sorry. I'm looking forward to reading more of your great work when you are good and ready. All the best, Doug

Patrick, I feel for you, your family, and your amazing pup.

The vet yesterday just called my Golden (5.5yrs) middle aged and it made me sad.

Dogs have a special ability to comfort and love just the right amount and always unconditionally. I and your other faithful fans, will be eagerly waiting your new posts, but in the meantime we wish you and yours the very best in this horrible scenario.

So sorry to hear that Patrick. I went through the same thing with my sweet dogs. One was just your dog’s age. It was unbearable for awhile.

Take care.

As an owner of 3 big beauties, none of whom is under 10, I sympathize greatly. Just remember how much of a wonderful life your sweetie had in your home and in your family.

Take care.

Losing a beloved pet is not a trivial matter. Take the time to make sure your kids are ok, as I had a bad experience when we lost our family dog and wouldn't wish it on anyone else.

Hi Patrick,
I'm so very sorry to hear this. I know how you must feel. A very bad time for you. Not to sound trite, but, it's true, time heals all wounds. In the meantime, give your beautiful lab a big hug, feed him a steak, and let him sleep. If he's in pain, your'e doing him a favor. Keep him in your heart forever, and know he's in a better place – they say 'All good dogs go to heaven.' Cheer up, and remember all the good times. He was lucky to have you as his owner. Keep your chin up, buddy. Take care.
Kenny

Thanks to all for your very kind words and thoughts. Our local vet was very kind and came to our home to do the final injection. My guy had been ill for a while and had grown to hate visiting the doc's office – so this way he did not get anxious and scared in the vet's office, but was able to be peaceful and loved on right up to the end – about as good a way as possible to do this I think. Today is a sad day, but he was suffering towards the end and it was the best course of action.
Thank you again for all your kindness.

The last act of love can be painful, but it is the right thing. Bless you.
