So Who’s Getting an iPad 2?

Share This:

It’s only a little over five days until the iPad 2 goes on sale in the US. We know all about what the iPad 2 is now – quite a lot thinner, a little bit lighter, faster, home to two new video cameras, and so on.

We also know there are a number of options in terms of models and more for the iPad 2. You can choose storage from 16GB up to 64GB; you can go WiFi only for a lower price or 3G connected via AT&T or Verizon; and you can go with a white or black model. You can add the Apple Smart Cover that they’re heavily promoting, or look at an already wide range of other 3rd party case options. You can order online or get one at an Apple store or a Walmart, Best Buy, or Sam’s Club outlet.

So what are your plans for the iPad 2? Are you getting one? If so, have you already decided on which color and model? Do you know how you’ll be buying it? Are you waiting or passing on this one? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

  1. My birthday is Thursday so the hubby is letting me order a new one. I want white wifi because the iPad 1 with wifi only has been just fine for me. I also want the pink cover. I know, real girly!

    1. Awesome – Happy Birthday in advance then. :) I’m pretty sure I’m going to stick with black and with 3, though perhaps with Verizon as it’s a separate data plan anyway.

I can’t say there are any pink covers on my list. :)

  2. Debating between the Xoom right now. I already have an ipad, and just recently switched to android. I’m loving android right now.

    1. Hi Charlie. I’ll be interested to hear which way you go – or whether you just end up with a collection of 5 tablets :)

  3. Nah, I’ll be staying true to my 1st gen. It’s still in immaculate condition so I definitely can’t justify an upgrade!

  4. Like Will, I’ll be sticking with my 1st gen. It works so well and I am so happy with it I can’t justify an upgrade either. Maybe I’ll reconsider for the 3rd gen.

  5. I have version 1 and am quite happy with it still. Can hold out to see what’s up with the alleged version coming out this Fall. I would really like to see a the much faster connector (Thunder) on things and hope it happens then.

  6. Im holding on tightly on my first gen which i really love and use daily. I actually ordered two new ones for my kids now when they lowered the price on the first gen pads. Cant honestly see a single reason that justify an upgrade. I see it more like an iPad 1.5, cosmetic retouch, and a great way to promote their 40$ cloth :-). Im usually first in line for any tech upgrade but i must say this one is a dead easy pass in my book.

  7. Planning to go for the 2 if I can get a good price for my original. Not really necessary as I love the orig. just more of a want than a need.

  8. I will be in line on Friday. I’m still trying to figure out what time I need to be in line at Best Buy, considering the fact that they’ll probably have a total of somewhere around 5, and because no one has clarified if they’ll be launching at 5 PM too (I’d imagine they would, but who knows). I’ve already spent upwards of $30 on apps that I’ve been admiring for the past year (this would be my first iOS device, first Apple device since iPod 5.5), so I’m pretty excited.

    Oh, right. Black, 32gb, wi-fi.

    1. It’s very hard to gauge the right time to line up this year – at Apple stores or anywhere else – due to the goofy 5:00PM release time. I’m still trying to figure out my plan for that too.

  9. Personally, I’ll hold for the iPad3. I don’t see much of a revolutionary difference, although I wonder if some apps will stop being compatible for both. But yeah replacing my near perfect tablet in a matter of a year doesn’t seem worth it currently.

Thanks as always for your great blog.

  10. I will be upgrading to the iPad 2 for the increase in performance and the HDMI mirroring. I love how the Apps work on the iPad and some should really look good on an HDTV.

    1. I’m looking forward to that feature as well – a lot. Between that and AirPlay there’s a lot of fun to be had between iPad and big TV screens.

  11. I won’t be purchasing an iPad2. My first generation iPad is serving my needs very well. I would not use the camera features much, if at all. I seldom use the camera on my BlackBerry and I have only used Face Time twice on my MacBook Air. But I do think, the iPad2 will outsell the original in a shorter time period.

  12. My birthday is actually tomorrow and i plan on buying an iPad 2 with my birthday money and partically from my savings. I think the two cameras on the new generation is a great idea and was a huge selling point for me. The smart cover and color varieties are good too though ;)
