Otterbox – one of the leading makers of rugged cases for mobile devices – have launched two new cases for the iPad.  They are the Otterbox Defender Series for the iPad and the Otterbox Commuter for the iPad.

Cases from Otterbox have proved very popular on the iPhone, and I imagine they’ll be among the top choices for anyone who wants strong protection for their iPad.

Here’s more detail on the Defender series from the Otterbox site:

Drop-proof your magical, new must-have gadget with the OtterBox Defender Series for Apple® iPad™! This cutting-edge case incorporates three layers of hardcore protection plus some advanced features. Stowing your iPad away for the night or for your commute? Simply remove the back polycarbonate cover and snap it over the face for ultimate touch screen protection.
The built-in stand will come in handy while trying to watch a movie or video, and creates a comfortable browsing experience. When using your iPad on a flat surface, the silicone grip pads on the bottom will hold your device securely in place. We also designed this case to accommodate the optional iPad dock accessory! Take your iPad everywhere you go knowing that it is safe from the occasional drop, bump and/or scratch.

Three layers of protection
Complete interaction of the iPad’s functions

And on the Commuter series:

Three slender, yet sturdy layers offer tough protection in a sleek package. With a slim form factor and smooth outer layer, this case slides easily in and out of a pocket, purse or bag.

  1. Last night I ordered the Commuter series. I'm now tempted to get that charging stand, too. But, then again, I only charge the thing about once a week, if that…

  2. This morning I received the Defender SEries and it looks heavy duty. It adds a little weight to the Ipad, however it makes it feel safe to carry around. It was easy to put together but I do not think that it is meant to take on and off.
Here are two improvements that I would like to see so far.
    1) for it to have a access slot for the Charger to plug in without having to take off the entire access door. That door only comes in handy if you are going to use the Ipad Dock. Otherwise it is a pain to take on and off. I feel like it will eventually break or loosen.
    2) the built-in stand should be on the outside of the cover. This would be better in order to not have to use the front cover as the resting point for the Ipad. In the long run it would probably get all scratched up.

  3. I received my Otterbox last night, and installed it, even with the screen protector (something I hate to do), too. But, I have to say, it was easy, and that case is simply badass!

    There, I said it…
