The Smart Cargo is a very interesting looking new iPad companion that’s the first to offer on-board magnetic storage for iPad accessories. There’s a Kickstarter project for the Smart Cargo due to go live next Monday (6/10) and we’ve got details on some early bird project backer options that will get you the product at half the MSRP.
Here’s a little bit of the intro text for the Smart Cargo:
The Smart Cargo sticks magnetically to the iPad Smart Cover and doubles as an ergonomic grip when carrying the iPad as you can see in the video. And with its sleek aluminum look that matches the back of the iPad, the Smart Cargo looks like it was always meant to be on the iPad.
The idea here is that if you carry a few accessories that are important to have with the iPad – like cables, a stylus, a cleaning cloth, Apple’s Camera Connection Kit, or headphones – the Smart Cargo provides a much neater way to keep them on hand.
Notable features of the Smart Cargo include:
The Smart Cargo’s hard shell is lined with felt on this inside to protect your fragile iPad accessories on the go.
The Smart Cargo securely attaches to your iPad Smart Cover using the full magnetic power of 14 magnets of your Smart Cover.
When using your iPad in stand position, the Smart Cargo fits perfectly inside the triangle of your rolled-up Smart Cover.
It sounds promising – and the project’s creator, Dotan Saguy, had another iPad accessory project (Smarter Stand) successfully funded and delivered to market last year.
Saguy was kind enough to give me a little heads-up on the deals available for early bird backers this coming Monday morning:
On Monday morning, the first 500 backers will be able to snag the product for only $15 with free US shipping (50% off the future MSRP of $30). The Kickstarter price will go up to $20 after that, which is still an incredible deal.
If you need a better way to carry your iPad accessories you may want to check it out. I’ll share a link to the Kickstarter project on Monday.
