Another Monster at the End of This Book for iPad

Another Monster at the End of This Book – Starring Grover and Elmo is the sequel to the excellent ‘The Monster at the End of This Book’ eBook for iPad and iOS. My 8 year old daughter and I are big fans of the original (it made her laugh tons) so as soon as I heard about this sequel from the publishers, Callaway Digital Arts, I gladly snapped up a promo code for it.

The theme of the first book, which starred Grover from Sesame Street, was that Grover was terrified of the monster at the end of the book – and did his absolute best to stop you from turning the pages to get to the end. For younger readers and listeners the tension builds a little as you get to the end and discover a very happy ending with the reveal that the ‘monster’ is Grover himself.

In Another Monster at the End of This Book Grover is joined by Elmo to add to the fun. Grover is still worried sick about reaching the end of the book and the monster waiting there, while Elmo is gung-ho to get there.

As in the first eBook, Grover sets about blocking you from turning the pages.

And Elmo asks you to help him get past Grover’s barriers, which get increasingly strong as the story goes along.

Of course there’s lots of interactive elements along the way – as kids need to figure out how to get past each of Grover’s blocking efforts.

I had a little worry my daughter was going to find this story just too young for her – but she enjoyed it thoroughly and laughed out loud on various pages, just as she had with the origina Monster at the End of This Book. I would venture a guess that younger kids, and especially those who are Sesame Street fans, are going to love this one. Having Grover and Elmo involved has got to just add to the appeal.

And of course there’s a happy ending, even though it leaves the two fuzzy pals in a little bit of a friendly dispute.

The app is produced by Callaway Digital Arts, who have a number of stellar kids and family apps in the App Store, alongside Sesame Workshop Apps. Here are some of its notable features per its App Store page:

* All-new animation featuring the voices of Grover and Elmo

* Word highlighting for beginning readers
* Intuitive finger-tapping, so little ones can play independently
* Bookplate personalization so you can add your child’s name!

If you’ve got kids who are Sesame Street fans, or at the right sort of age to appreciate its characters, this eBook app should be a big hit with them.

  1. I like it for sure, that is, my kids liked it, ages 2 and 4, a boy and girl. The only thing is, it seems shorter than the first one. Maybe that’s just my imagination but it seemed like fewer pages and over too quickly. I bought it as soon as I saw it was available this past weekend. No brainier!
