Quick Look: Ocean Blue for iPad

Ocaen Blue iPad app

Remember when the Koi Pond app first hit the iPhone?  It was, and is, quite a neat little app that let you watch koi swim around gracefully and tap the water to create ripples in the pond. Since then, many similar apps have been added to the App Store.

Ocean Blue for iPad takes this sort of app to a whole new level.  It’s bigger in every way – designed for the iPad’s big screen, full of a wide variety of sea creatures and environments to view them in, and a good range of ways to interact with them and even learn a bit about them.

Ocean Blue on the iPad

Here’s a bit of the app’s App Store description:

Clownfish, Blue tang, Sea Turtle, Hammerhead Shark! Supreme and lifelike graphics will give you fantastic experiences in the beautiful ocean! Place yourself in the flippers of a diver and enjoy interacting- feeding and shocking- with beautiful marine animals in the comfort of your home!

It really does offer a scuba diver’s type view – with lots of options to change what sort of fish and creatures you’re seeing and where you’re seeing them.  With just a few taps you can choose from nine different species of sea creatures to add to the view, adding one or more of each type, or select from ten different environments to view them in.

The fish all look very realistic and the way they move is impressive as well.

You can tap and old anywhere to draw fish in to feed, or double tap anywhere to create a lighting-like effect that scares and scatters all the creatures.

One of my favorite features is the ability to tap on a fish (or shark or turtle) and get a closeup view that pans around and shows you them from all sides – and makes it very easy to save screencaps of them to your Camera Roll.

You also get a nice little bit of information on each sea creature from these close-up view screens …

Ocean Blue is an impressive app all the way around.  It’s intuitive and fun to use, has enough good features to keep your interest and inspire repeat uses, and should be an instant hit for kids who are interested in sea creatures.  My daughter loves it.

You can find Ocean Blue for iPad in the App Store now, priced at $4.99.

  1. Hey everyone,
My husband recently downloaded an app similar to this one that my whole family loves! It's soooo cute! There's so many sea animals, coral, and epic underwater creatures I've even never seen before. My daughter has learned to recognize types of whales, fish, sea turtles, and other fun animals all from this app! It's so amazing!
It's called Epic Ocean HD. Here's a link to it in the App Store. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/epic-ocean-hd/id39

I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
