Electric Slide iPad app

Electric Slide, the best presentation app I’ve seen for the iPad, has been updated this week and added support for Apple’s Keynote app. Version 2.0 of Electric Slide was released a couple days ago and it’s a substantial update for an already superb app.

Here’s a quick rundown of why I rate Electric Slide as the best iPad presentation app:

— It takes away all the worry and hassle of presenting in just about any environment. You don’t need to worry about adapters or cables or AirPlay or compatibility with whatever projector or TV will be in the area you present in. All you need is any device with a web browser. You type in a URL, open your presentation in Electric Slide, hit ‘Broadcast’, and fire away.

— It now supports Powerpoint, Keynote, and PDF formats, and the ‘Open In’ feature of iOS.

— It’s easy to use and leaves you free to walk around a room with your iPad while controlling your presentation. This is so much better than being chained to a small area around a projector.

— You can use it when presenting in person or to a remote group, while always remaining in control of the flow of the presentation.

Here’s the rundown of what’s new in the new 2.0 version of Electric Slide:

Added Keynote support – Electric Slide now supports Apple Keynote files with animations preserved. Not all Keynote features are supported.
Added Broadcast Zoom feature for zooming slides and documents
Added File Inbox feature – now you can email your slides, documents and videos to a special email address and they’ll appear in your account
Added document page thumbnails for quicker navigation
Enabled A/V adapter support for iPhone 4 and iPad 1
Added ability to share links to your content for viewers to browse on their own
Improved document text and image quality
Embedded PowerPoint fonts are now preserved during PowerPoint preparation
Numerous improvements to PowerPoint conversion quality
Can now sync videos for offline presentation – requires that you enable the ‘sync videos’ option in app settings
Can now see sync progress by tapping the syncing icon

Support for Keynote is clearly the headline new feature – and one that was right at the top of the list of users’ most requested features. The new Broadcast Zoom works quite nicely too.

The app is free and when you sign up with Electric Slide you get a free account that gives you the following features:

  • 50mb storage
  • Up to 5 simultaneous live viewers
  • Videos up to 60 seconds in length
  • Documents available fast, but paid accounts get priority
  • Meeting length limited to 90 minutes

You can upgrade to a Pro account for $7.99 per month to get access to more on each area:

  • 1gb storage (20 times more space)
  • Up to 50 simultaneous live viewers
  • Videos up to 30 minutes in length
  • Priority document conversions
  • No meeting length limits

Right now, for a limited time, the Pro account is available for $4.99 per month.

I’ve used Electric Slide for a number of presentations now and its just a pure pleasure to work with. If you do a lot of presenting, you should really take a look at this app.
