Chrome for iPad Updated – Search Improvements, Quick Access to Tab History

Chrome for iPad

The Chrome browser app for iPad and iPhone has been updated today, to Version 25.0.1364.86 – using Google’s hilarious update numbering scheme.

The update brings just a small number of enhancements and a some unspecified bug fixes. Here’s the full change list for it:

• Long press on the back button to quickly access any page in your tab history
• Share a web page via Messages
And of course: stability / security improvements and bug fixes

There’s also said to be some search improvements on the way, though not all the way rolled out yet:

If you’re using Chrome on your iPhone or iPad, searching with Google just got even easier. Now you can see your search term in the omnibox, instead of the long search URL. This will help you refine search queries and view more content on the results page. This feature will roll out in the coming weeks, so you may not see it right away after upgrading.

I quite like the new quick access to tab history. It works well for me on my iPad 3. I’m having no such luck in testing it on my iPad mini – where the app just continually crashes to the home screen. I’ve rebooted the iPad after installing it and deleted and reinstalled the app – but it still does nothing but nosedive.

My iPad mini is currently jailbroken, so perhaps that’s the cause – though I have had zero issues with any other apps since jailbreaking it. Anyone else with a jailbroken iPad seeing issues with Chrome for iPad?

  1. The Chrome update crashes immediately on my jailbroken iPad running 6.1.2 rendering it useless and putting me squarely back in Safari hell. Read the reviews on the App Store, it’s not an isolated issue.

  2. Same shit here… Is it isolated to jailbroken ipads?

Someone in the reviews, said that reinstalling the app worked. No luck for me though…
