Excellent LogMeIn Remote Access App for iPad Gets New Name, Goes Free

LogMeIn, formerly known as LogMeIn Ignition, is an excellent remote access app for the iPad and iOS – that allows you to access and control your Mac and Windows PCs from the iPad.

The app has recently had its name changed and has become a free app – it was previously a $30 app. There are a number of very good remote access apps for the iPad, but I think LogMeIn is the best of a very good bunch.

The free app does not offer all of the powerful features of LogMeIn, but probably offers enough for most users. Here’s the rundown on what the free app provides and then the full set of features available to those who do an In-App purchase to upgrade to LogMeIn Pro for $39.99.

LogMeIn Free users can:
Access an unlimited number of PCs and Macs from their iOS devices (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) through a highly secure yet simple connection (AES 256-bit encryption, SSL/TLS intrusion detection)
Remotely view and control their PCs and Macs as if the device were in their hands
Run their computer-based business applications like Salesforce, Microsoft Office, Quickbooks, etc. on their iOS device
View important files and other important information stored on a remote computer from anywhere with a WiFi or 3G connection

LogMeIn Pro users get all the benefits and capabilities of LogMeIn Free, plus:

NEW: High Definition (HD) remote control, optimized for streaming video and audio content from their PCs to their iOS devices (Mac HD streaming is planned for early 2012)
Cloud storage integration to quickly and seamlessly view, copy, transfer and save files between iOS devices, personal or work computers, and popular cloud services (e.g. Dropbox, Google Docs)
File Management: Copy, move, and save files or folders from remote computers directly onto the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch for offline viewing

I prefer having the full set of features, especially the unique and hugely useful ability to copy and move files between remote computers and the iPad and iOS devices. Fortunately for me, the Pro upgrade comes free because I had already purchased LogMeIn Ignition in the past.

Here’s an App Store link for LogMeIn.

  1. Not saying the Pro version isn’t worth it, but if you can fully control your PC with the free version and you have Dropbox installed on your PC, don’t you already get “Cloud Storage Integration” and “File Management”? Sure it eliminates a step (hence the “directly” reference), but am I missing something else?
