Instapaper, the excellent offline reader app for iPad and iOS, was updated again yesterday – to Version 4.2.2.
The exciting new feature in this update is this one:
Background Update Locations: Automatically download new articles in the background whenever you enter or leave locations such as your home or workplace. Special thanks to News.me for pioneering this technique.
That sounds very slick. In addition to bug fixes here’s the one other item on the change list for this update:
Improved typography: now supports ligatures and advanced kerning in most articles when using the Lyon, Tisa, Meta, or Hoefler Text fonts.
There are two great iPad apps in this category right now – Instapaper and Pocket – and over recent weeks it almost feels like a bit of an arms race between the two, as they have both been rolling out impressive updates and new features. It’s great for iPad users to have two stellar apps for this purpose, and both continually making big improvements.
Here’s an App Store link for Instapaper; it’s priced at $4.99 and is a universal app designed for both iPad and iPhone.
