Notable New iPad Apps: Coast by Opera Browser

Coasts by Opera

Coast by Opera is very interesting and promising new browser app for the iPad. The App Store page for it touts 3 reasons that Coast is the best browser for iPad:

Number one, every design element in Coast has been carefully crafted for iPad. It’s not just a mobile interface scaled up to fit a touchscreen.
Number two, it’s comfortable to use, looks great and is based on intuitive swipe gestures.
Number three, all the stuff you don’t see. We have invented a lot of technology that works under the hood, keeping you safe and secure.

I’ve only spent around 20 minutes with the app, so it’s a little early to agree on it being the best browser for the iPad – but I can say that’s it does absolutely feel like an app that’s built just for the iPad and it’s very nice to use.

There are a number of things to like about Coast. The full screen views with all the cruft and controls hidden away is a pleasure to work with.

The cards type view of open tabs is also attractive and easy to use.

In fact, everything about the app is intuitive, elegant, and smooth. Again, I’ve only spent a short time with Coast thus far, but it’s a pleasure to browse with and will certainly get a lot more use on my iPads.

Oh, I’ve seen some people who were worried about whether the app works well in landscape mode – because the Opera promo video for it shows only portrait mode. I’ve been using it happily in portrait and landscape and it works great in both modes.

Here’s an App Store link for Coast by Opera; it’s a free app.

  1. I LOVE this new browser! I can start typing any site and it will either find it or give me the results in Google. More importantly, the sites seem to work better, too. The links are kept for me in a new folder. I really like their weather app. I leave it on Current Location and it gives the information for the coming week in an at-a-glance format that is beautifully simple and informative. Thank you for always giving us such good information, Patrick!
