The Championships, Wimbledon 2013 for iPad is the official iPad app for this year’s championship at the All-England Club. This is an outstanding official app that’s been around on iOS for years now and seems to get better very year. I’m just going to refer to the app as Wimbledon 2013, for the sake of brevity, for most of the rest of this post.
I enjoy all the majors in tennis, but there’s always been something especially magical about Wimbledon and it’s my favorite of all of them. The championship is already heating up just 3 days in and there are many top players in action today. This is a superb companion app for the tournament. It’s beautifully designed and packed with cool features to help you keep up with every aspect of the tournament.
Here are just some of the highlights of the Wimbledon 2013 app:
— Live Video: of key matches. This offers great coverage of many of the most exciting matches each day. There’s also a Video Clips section with highlights, player interviews and more.
— Live @ Wimbledon Radio: If you can’t watch the live video or just prefer following by radio, there are 3 channels available with on each dedicated to Centre Court and No. 1 Court.
— Interactive Grounds Maps: These show the entire grounds where the championships are held, with POI style pins showing the courts and other notable spots. A tap on any of the courts will show you what’s going on there at the moment.
— Players Section: offering lovely full page profiles of the players with photos and videos for many of them.
– Scores: An easy to read and well laid out scoreboard area with all the latest live scores and a section for previous results.
There are also sections that show the draw and the order of play. This app is just full of great content. It’s great as your first or second screen while watching Wimbledon. It’s definitely getting a lot of work on my iPad 3 today.
