Total Film, described as the modern movie brand for film fans, launched its iPad edition last week. It’s a very impressive looking title, one of the rare iPad magazines that feels like a genuine iPad edition.
It offers a very slick and friendly UI, interactive pages, plenty of multimedia content, exclusive content, full-screen movie trailers with AirPlay support, and retina display support in the new monthly edition.
The app’s publisher, Future Publishing, used their own in-house app to produce this iPad edition, and it’s produced a great result:
The Total Film Interactive Edition was created using Future’s own proprietary software, FutureFolio. FutureFolio is an Apple-approved wrapper for digital products on the Newsstand, which opens up new opportunities and channels for the digital publication market.
Here’s another screenshot, of the New Movie Reviews section – all the Total Film pages really look superb on the new iPad:
The interactive elements are very nicely done as well. I especially like the Meet the Team Q&A popover that shows very short Q&A sessions with leading cast members.
Here are the pricing details for the app and its subscription model:
For two weeks only, fans can download the monthly Total Film Interactive Edition for a special introductory price of $2.99 USD at www.totalfilm.com/newsstand. Regular price for the issue is $5.99 USD. Film fans can also download a free sampler edition from the Total Film Container App now.
The terms of subscription are 3 months, 6 months and 1 year and your subscription will start with the latest available issue.
Individual issues are priced at:
Single issue £3.99 / $5.99 / €4.99
With subscription prices at:
3 months £8.99 / $12.99 / €10.49
6 months £15.49 / $21.99 / €17.99
1 year £27.99 / $39.99 / €31.99
I’m not enough of a movie buff (not even close) to rate this from a film fan perspective, but just in terms of iPad editions of magazines I’d say this is a very impressive tittle.
Here’s an App Store link for Total Film; it’s a universal app designed for both iPad and iPhone.
