OmniOutliner – the super cool organizational tool for the Mac from Omni Group – is going to have an iPad version. Macworld (the magazine/site) has a report today from Macworld (the event) where they spoke to the CEO of Omni Group, Ken Case, and he confirmed the iPad app is on the way and even showed them a development version of it.
Here’s a slice of the description of the OmniOutliner Mac app:
… an amazingly flexible program for creating, collecting, and organizing information. Use OmniOutliner’s document structure to brainstorm new ideas, drill out specifics, and line up the steps needed to get everything done. It’s more than just an outlining tool—you’ve got multiple columns, smart checkboxes, customizable popup lists, and an über-innovative styles system at your disposal. Use OmniOutliner to draft to-do lists, create agendas, manage tasks, track expenses, take notes, plan events, write screenplays . . . and just about anything else you can think of.
The upcoming iPad version sounds very promising. Here’s a stellar feature of it that Macworld’s article noted:
While many iPad apps edit only plain text, Omni Group has built its own rich-text editor, so OmniOutliner users will be able to style the text in their documents. To speed data entry, OmniOutliner for iPad adds a small strip of icons right above the standard iPad keyboard; items in the strip will include options to quickly style text as well as tools to quickly navigate between items in the outline.
Omni’s CEO told Macworld he hopes the app will be out by mid-year but there is no concrete release date as yet.
I have used the Mac version of OmniOutliner and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the iPad version.
