Skype for iPad, the iPad app for the hugely popular VOIP service, has been updated today, to Version 4.5. Here’s the change list for this latest update:
✓ Skype automatically reconnects a dropped call when your wifi or mobile network reception is poor
✓ Add money to your Skype account directly from the app to send SMS or call mobiles and landlines worldwide. Currently available in United States, United Kingdom, France, Sweden and Estonia.
✓ A simple swipe from the left of the screen opens your recent conversations in a new sidebar
✓ General fixes
One-to-one chats now appear in the correct order
Those first three new features all sound very good to me. Dropped calls are a relatively common event on Skype so automatic reconnects should hopefully help make them less painful. Being able to add money to a Skype account is handy too – as you always tend to see your balance run dry at the least convenient time.
I’m a big fan of the Skype for iPad app. I actually like using it more than the desktop app – so I’m always glad to see updates and new features for it.
Here’s an App Store link for Skype for iPad; it’s a free app.
They also fixed the problem where you could only see 1 phone number per iPad contact. When you press call, you get a list of the phone numbers for the contact that you can use.
