Super Cool New Feature in Photo Transfer App: Send Photos Straight To an App

Photo Transfer App for iPad

Photo Transfer App is a longtime big favorite iPad app for me, and one of our choices in the Best iPad Apps of 2011 list. It’s a simple and stellar app for transferring photos between your iOS devices and Mac and Windows computers. I use it heavily for sending photos from my iPhone to the iPad – and nearly always find it to be faster than waiting on Photo Stream.

Now it has added an incredibly useful new feature: the ability to send a photo straight to an app. So now when I select a new photo taken on my iPhone that I want to edit a little in PhotoToaster or another great editing or effects app on the iPad, I can have the image sent directly to that app.

Using this new feature is a great time saver – with no more need for sending a photo first to the Camera Roll as the middleman.

This is another excellent example of an already great iPad app continuing to improve and add impressive new features.

Here’s an App Store link for Photo Transfer App; it’s priced at $2.99 and is a universal app designed for both iPad and iPhone.

  1. Re: Photo Transfer App: The latest update for this app on iTunes is Sept 26, 2012. The Dev’s description on iTunes and on their website do not mention anything about sending a photo directly to an app on an iDevice via PTA. A great idea, yes, maybe you are mentioning something coming out in a future update? Would be great if it’s true. Thanks for a great site.

    1. I noticed this was missing in the update description too. Maybe it was added in a previous update and I missed it. But I can tell for sure that this feature is in the app now and works just fine. That screenshot above shows the feature being used.

Thanks for the kind words too.

  2. Hi Patrick,
Does that option only show if you try a transfer from device to device?
Because, even if I choose device to device, and no other device is detected, the option (to send to another App) showing in your screen capture picture, does not show on mine.

I’m using the App version 3.4.1

Can you please tell me (us) the procedure you used to see this option, and if it still shows even if it’s not device to device, if no other device is being transferred to, or detected?

    Thank you.

  3. Hello again Patrick,
I’ve posted this question on the support site for Photo Transfer App, and received an answer, shown at the link below. It seems a few select Apps have this compatibility option with the Photo Transfer App, and need to be on the device used, to have the added option you mention here, working.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I didn’t know about it.
