I’ve never been much of a platform gamer, and have never even owned a gaming console – so I never tried out the Nintendo version of ‘Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out’. I am a huge boxing fan though, and loved watching Tyson fight when he was in his prime, terrorizing the heavyweight division.

So I’m glad to hear that a publisher called Rock Software has got plans to bring Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out to the iPad and iPhone. The new game will let you fight your way through ten (hopefully pushover) opponents before getting a shot at Iron Mike.

Here’s a little more detail on what’s expected to be on offer in the game:

Users will fight as a character named “Little Sammy,” going through 10 boxers and then getting the opportunity to take on Tyson. …

The game will sell for $0.99, but Rock Software plans to further monetize by letting users buy other athletes that they can use in the game. The company does digital work for other flamboyant sports stars including Chad Ochocinco, Terrell Owens and Floyd Mayweather Jr., so we can imagine these in-game purchases being a fairly strong supplemental revenue stream.

Despite being quite a non-gamer / lame gamer, this one looks like it might be good fun. For more information on it, check out Mashable’s post on it here:
