iPad at Work: for American Airlines

American Airlines has embarked on a pilot program, testing the use of iPads as a replacement for printed flight navigation charts. The iPad, in tandem with a specialized app, will potentially replace paper charts that weigh 35 pounds or more. Apple Insider reports that if the switch is made successfully it could save the airline over a million dollars annually.

Here’s my favorite part of this iPad news item. American Airlines is currently offering some of its passengers use of Samsung Galaxy Tabs for in-flight entertainment.

So the iPad, the ‘only good for consumers’ tablet is in the cockpit, being used as an essential tool for pilots, and the Galaxy Tab is providing entertainment. Ha.
