Rage HD – Big Fun, Even for a Non-Gamer

Rage HD on iPad

I’m not much of a gamer type at all. I’ve never owned any console system and rarely enjoy any of the real fast-paced action games on any platform, with just a few exceptions now and again. Doom and Quake were two that I did enjoy playing back in the day. I was never any good at them mind you, but I had fun messing around with them.

Rage HD – the highly-touted new game from idSoftware, makers of Doom and Quake   is another shooter / action game that falls into the exception category for me – maybe just because it reminds me of Quake and Doom, or maybe because it’s done ‘on rails’ (which I get the impression hard-core gamers think is too easy) so it’s a bit more manageable for a really bad player like me. For whatever reason though, I like the game a lot. I’m still no good at all at it, but I find it big fun to keep trying with it. The graphics and the gore and the sound effects are all compelling to me. I don’t know that I’ll stay interested in it over the long term, but for now this is another ‘exception’ game that I’m getting a lot of enjoyment out of.

Are any of you all playing Rage HD? If so, what do you think of it so far?

  1. Awesome game! I'm only into the first few levels, but it's the fastest-paced, best looking graphics I've seen on the iPad. Nicely done!

  2. Takes me back to Doom, Wolfenstein, Quake and other Mac games like Marathon. Fun without taking itself seriously.
