Another One Bites the Dust – Dell’s Killing Off the Streak 7 Tablet

Another supposed iPad rival bites the dust: Apple Insider reports today that Dell is pulling the plug on its Dell Streak 7 Android-powered tablet. That’s after it previously discontinued its 5 inch version of the Streak

Apparently Dell is now talking about Windows 8, which is expected to be running on tablets by the end of 2012. Good luck with that.

One additional interesting thing mentioned in the Apple Insider article:

Apple sold more iPads in the last quarter than all the PCs Dell sold in total.

We’ve also seen recent news on RIM writing off nearly $500 million in losses associated with having to sell their PlayBook tablets at huge discounts just to generate any sales interest in them at all. It looks like it will not be long at all before the PlayBook is killed off as well.

This was supposed to be the year that featured the rise of iPad competitors, and especially Android tablets – and it just hasn’t happened at all. The Kindle Fire is the only (sort of) Android tablet that has produced any notable sales momentum – and even that comes while selling it at a loss (on the hardware at least) by all accounts.I guess the motto for iPad rivals needs to be ‘Maybe Next Year’.
