And another one gone and another one gone …
Citing employee preferences and the growing Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) movement, Cisco is no longer investing in the Cius Android tablet it announced in 2010.
Another big name, another tablet that would supposedly rival the iPad, particularly in the corporate arena, another tablet being put out to pasture.
I agree with Tofel’s post title, which disagrees with Cisco’s stated reason for killing the Cius – that BYOD (bring your own device) schemes were largely responsible for the device’s lack of success. Also agree with his sum-up:
The company says it will instead focus on collaboration software and solutions as workers use a wide range of hardware and enterprises are rushing to support such devices. That’s a great idea from Cisco that’s about two years and one hardware project too late.
Up to now most iPad rivals have been a couple years behind and not chock full of great ideas. Hopefully Windows 8 tablets will offer some better competition whenever they eventually make it to market.
