It looks like Face Time – the slick new video chat system used in the iPhone 4 – will be coming to the iPad and iPod Touch. At least that’s what the folks at The Boy Genius Report are hearing from one of their ‘reliable Apple connections’ – and BGR have a pretty stellar track record on scoops and rumors in the mobile tech arena. They’ve even got details on how Face Time will work on these two devices that don’t have phone numbers linked to them …
It’s actually pretty simple… Your Apple ID will be registered with your device/s, and that will allow other Apple devices to start a FaceTime call using your email address. Apple will also reportedly make use of push notifications to deliver these incoming FaceTime connection requests as we have been informed there is a push notification detector tied into the FaceTime frameworks in the new iPhone OS 4.1 beta.
This would be a great addition even to the existing iPad for just one-way video chat; and will certainly increase the clamor for a camera in the next generation of the iPad.
