More Evidence of Additional Landscape Dock Connector, Camera for iPad?

We’re seeing another piece of documentation with a landscape dock connector, at least according to the latest patent filings, this time emerging from Europe.

These latest patents, submitted to the European Trademarks and Designs Registration Office, showanother landscape 30 pin dock connecter, with both Jony Ive and Steve Jobs named on said patent.  And of course there is that questionable hole at the top which could indicate a camera or just an ambient light detector that exists on the current design.

That’s an except from a report at 9to5mac earlier today. Of course, Apple has plenty of patents that don’t ever see the light of day, so customary grains of salt need to be applied here as always. I think the addition of a camera is virtually a given for the next iPad model/models – but I don’t feel like that landscape dock connector is something I desperately want to see added.

How about you all? Do you need to be able to dock your iPad in both orientations?

  1. Docking in landscape should be done, to properly view many document and spreadsheets and to make typing easier, yes.
