Official Facebook App Coming to the iPad Soon?

Apparently the official Facebook app may be getting a proper HD version for the iPad soon.  No less an authority than the head honcho at the outfit that produces an alternative Facebook app for iPad is convinced of this.

Cyril Moutran, co-founder of Oecoway, developer of apps such as Friendly which is the unofficial FaceBook iPad app that costs $0.99, claims that an official FaceBook app is coming soon.

People at FaceBook have reportedly claimed to have told Moutran that an official FaceBook app is nearing release and even the CEO of FaceBook has promised an iPad app since June 2010.

I’m not a huge user of Facebook but I have been using it more often of late, and I have to say an HD version would be cool to see.

  1. Having tried out 1/2 dozen Twitter apps I was THRILLED when Twitter, Inc. finally came out with their own application! WHY? Because they better than anyone know what their users want and need.

The same thing goes for Facebook. I, like many, use Friendly. It's fine, but the developer is very upfront in saying he threw it together to take advantage of the market available until FB developed their own… that's cool, but its not perfect.

I am so looking forward to a Facebook app that will give us the same experience that we are used to on the FB website. So why do we even need an app? We don't. We can always access FB through Safari, Atomic Web or any other browser we are using on our iPads, but apps make like simple and easy. So I, for one, look forward to seeing the OFFICIAL FACEBOOK app out soon!

    Thanks for the great article!
I have subscribed to your RSS feed and look forward to more!

    1. The problem with this analogy is that Twitter has a really good UI team and Facebook has created one UI trainwreck after another. Their website is still pretty clunky even after all this time. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion at all that FB can create a better app than Friendly, never mind better than Twitter for iPad.

  2. Considering Facebook looks and works just fine using Safari, why would anyone want an app on the ipad for it?

    1. I think a lot of us prefer a native app on most occasions. I'm not a big enough Facebook user to know all the different capabilities of the existing native app, but I do know it's been hugely popular on the iPhone in spite of however well FB works in Safari. So it seems clear that all those who prefer the iPhone native app and now have an iPad are going to want to see an HD version of it.

  3. …this app is so over due! Seriously. And, let's not talk about the crappy Facebook notifications on the iPhone…
