Can’t Save Facebook Photos in iOS 6: An Easy Fix

iPad Facebook Save Photo

Recently I’ve been seeing quite a few comments here from users saying they cannot save Facebook photos on the iPad since upgrading to iOS 6. They still get the ‘Save Photo’ prompt when they try to save an image of their own or from one of their friends in the iPad Facebook app, but the image never shows up in the Camera Roll as it always used to.

I had not ever experienced the issue myself, but as more users kept mentioning it I decided to research it a little this morning. And luckily there is a very easy solution to this problem. I’ve tested it out and it works.

Here’s what you need to do to be able to save Facebook photos on the iPad running iOS 6:

— Open the Settings app and tap on the Privacy section in the left sidebar (just four below the General section).

iPad iOS 6 Privacy Settings

— In the Privacy settings window, tap on the Photos section. That will bring up a listing of all of your installed apps that have asked for and / or require access to your photo library.

iPad Privacy Facebook Photos Settings

— Look for the entry for Facebook, and tap so that it is turned On.

That’s it. That should allow you to save Facebook photos to the iPad Camera Roll just as you always could before iOS 6.

  1. I tried this trick but I still get “no data available” and the picture/image doesn’t save. It did work on my iPhone.

  2. Thank you so so much! This has been driving me crazy since I downloaded the upgrade. I have a friend who couldn’t figure it out either, so I will have to let her know! Thanks! I have been browsing some of your other notices and they are so helpful…will keep you bookmarked!

  3. Ok so how do I post a pic from my camera roll to FB? It tells me no account has been activated. I did this prior to iOS 6. Thanks,

  4. Thank you so much for this info. I was about to go crazy trying to figure out what the heck happened. Lol. Had some photos I really needed from facebook.

  5. I do not have a Facebook account. However, I received some pictures that when tapped, take me to iPad’s Facebook screen for viewing. Your method does not work: the only item on the Privacy screen is my network printer.

  6. Thanks Patrick, very helpful. My mother was walking around yelling at her iPad because it wouldn’t save images from Facebook a family reunion page. i will now get some peace and quiet again :)

  7. Patrick- I used this when I installed iOS 6. Now that I updated Facebook from apps store there is not an option on the page to save the photo when I open it. There use to be on the old Facebook.

  8. Patrick. Mine settings have always been what you suggest, however it still will not save in camera roll. ios6, ipad.

  9. Same here Jesse, my settings have all been switched to ‘on’ and I still can’t save images, nor can I import them to use in my pages app. This is really annoying, I wish I hadn’t updated the new software.

  13. After my iPad update saving photos was not working. I tried going into ipad privacy settings and still nothing. The suggestion to hold down on the photo worked like a charm. Thanks!

  14. I went super loco and was shocked to see uncountable photos over days of collecting them for a fashion show, that not a single one was in my camera roll! I have been frustrated and thank you so very much! It was quick and now it is working again!

  15. Thank you! Didn’t realize photos were not being saved as the ‘save photo’ option still was available. Glad to learn how to correct this.

  16. I am having this same problem, only when I go into my privacy settings and go to photos facebook is set to off and greyed out. It will not let me turn it on. Any idea why it would do this?

    1. I am having the same problem with my Settings -> Privacy -> Photos…the apps that want access to my photos are showing but they are “greyed out” and I cannot “turn on” the access to allow fb access to my pics :( Anyone know how to change this? Thanks.
