If you’re looking for some great wallpaper choices for your iPad or iPhone, this is an app you may well want to take a look at. It’s called Sciphone Wallpapers and it offers over 9,000 wallpapers in a wide range of categories.
The Sciphone.net wallpapers site has been a favorite of mine for iPhone wallpapers for quite a while, and I was delighted to see their app hit the App Store recently.
The 20 categories of wallpapers in the app include: 3D, Abstract, Animals, Cars, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Fine Art, Food, Funny, Music, Nature, Simple, Space, Technology, Textures, Travel, and more.
The app’s UI is fairly basic but it works well and it’s easy to navigate around it and find good wallpapers quickly.
Within each category you can browse via a standard view with thumbnails laid out in rows of three, or you can switch to a ‘Flow’ view that offers coverflow style navigation by swiping forward and back (it’s not terribly smooth though).
Here’s a little more detail from the app’s App Store description:
* Thousands of beautiful hand-picked wallpapers formatted for iPhone and iPod touch
* The perfect blend of premium content integrated into a simple refined user experience
* New wallpapers are added daily by members and staff
* Different methods of browsing the collection: Grid, Navigate, Search, and Flow
* Browse and download wallpapers anywhere, anytime, for Free
* Direct download maintains image quality by avoiding Apple’s image compression
You can search within the app if you’ve got a particular topic in mind for a wall you’d like to see. I tried ‘Linux’ and got some good results:
Although the app is listed as being compatible with iPhone and iPad, the wallpapers appear to be most (or all) sized at iPhone size (320X480). I’ve found that many still work nicely on my iPad though – for instance this Snow Leopard one:
You can find the Sciphone Wallpapers app in the App Store now, and it is a free app.

320X480? Wouldn't that be stretched quite badly and shows a lower resolution on the iPad?
It may well do on some images – but I've found a number that look quite good so far.
Ah alright, cheers. Might worth looking for something new then :) I already got bored with the default ones
Great, I was just writing a post about nature wallpapers – http://www.ipadmaniac.com/wallpapers/17-beautiful…
Do you know any other apps for backgrounds specifically for the iPad?
Why is it that your content reminds me of one other the same the one that I read someplace else?
No idea why that would be. Every single post here is original content.
