As developers continue to dissect the iPad SDK we’re gradually learning more and more about what it contains, and what’s different on the iPad to what we’re used to on the iPhone OS.
Here’s an interesting one – it appears that six icons can fit on the iPad dock. A whopping 50% improvement over the iPhone :) I wonder whether Apple will allow for any user choice in this area. He mentioned at the iPad launch event that we can ‘change the home screen’ – so can we select whether we want 4,5,6 or more icons in the dock?
I’d love to see a bit of the Infinidock concept make it onto the iPad. That’s an iPhone jailbreak app that provides an endless, scrollable (swipeable) dock, where you can choose how many icons you want to see per home screen.
Evernote is one of my most-used apps, on the iPhone and on my laptop. It’s one of the few apps that gets use just about every day on both iPhone and desktop. So I’m very happy to hear that they’re very enthusiastic about the iPad and bringing a modified / optimized version of Evernote to it.
I was also very interested to learn – via an interesting blog post at the Evernote Blogcast site – that Evernote has a long standing history of involvement with tablet devices, and even with the much-revered Apple Newton.
We know we can get our hands on the new iPad in around two months time. Now we’re going to need some accessories for it. And cases are generally right around the top of the accessories list for mobile devices. So it’s good to see some accessories manufacturers already announcing some iPad products.
Griffin Technology – a well-known name in the accessories arena – has got a nice little selection of iPad cases and a screen care kit listed as coming soon / Spring 2010.
Everyone who wants to get their hands on the upcoming new iPad from Apple has got to wait 60 days (from the day of the launch event – January 27th). If you’d like to get an email notification when the iPad is available to be ordered, here’s where to go:
You just fill in your name and email address and you’re set.
Here’s how Steve Jobs summed up the new iPad at the Apple launch event jut a couple of days ago:
Our most advanced technology in a magical & revolutionary device at an unbelievable price.
It’s going to be lots of fun seeing whether the new device can live up to those lofty words.
On Wednesday Steve and Apple put an end to all the frenzied rumors and speculation, and announced the iPad. Reactions to the long-awaited and much-anticipated new device have been all over the board. I’m excited about the iPad. I want one, and will certainly get one on Day 1, and I’m excited to blog about this new device and especially about the apps that will run on it and the uses we’ll find for it.
Wednesdays launch event was long and full of a lot of information. Read on for some of my quick thoughts on what we heard …
