As I hope some of you may have noticed by now, the layout of iPad Insight has been refreshed. The changes just went live late last night and some are still being worked on. You should the full effect of changes by early next week or sooner.
Before I list a few of the notable changes I’ll share with you the reasons for making them. I am constantly looking for ways to make this site better, and to make it a great site to visit on the iPad and on desktop browsers. So one of the main objectives with this refresh is to make the site feel a little cleaner. Apart from some design changes, a huge part of this is reducing the number of ads on the site. These layout changes, when they’re finished over the next few days, will result in 50% less space taken up by ads (or even slightly more than that).
This has been a major goal of mine for a long time, and now it is finally starting to happen – while hopefully allowing me to still afford luxuries like hosting fees and food for my enormous Deputy Editor Dawg.

So, here are a few of the layout changes we’ve made:
— At the top of the right sidebar, the Subscribers bar shows our current number of followers / subscribers via RSS, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Google+ and email. The number is a little over 17,000 just now.
— A wider, roomier layout.
— A larger footer area – where you’ll now find links for contacting us and socializing with us via Facebook and Google+ and more.
— Less ads on the sidebar. And again, this is still being worked on – so you’ll see even fewer when this is finalized in a few days.
This is very much an evolutionary rather than revolutionary change to the site – but I hope it’s one that you will enjoy when spending time on the site. I feel very happy with the new look, and happy to be substantially reducing the space taken up by ads. I don’t run site skin ads here, or double-underline text ads, or ads within posts either. Keeping ads at a respectable level, while still feeding the dawg and paying the rent, has been and remains a major focus point for me.
As with any site changes, there will undoubtedly be some issues over the next few days. I’m already aware of a couple. We’ll do our best to get those addressed as quickly as possible. If you spot any please let us know via the comments or an email to our contact address.
I want to say a huge thanks to Devin who worked his coding magic to implement these changes (often late at night) and to the awesome team at BuySellAds who worked with me on design and layout changes and on reducing the space taken up by ads.
Now, as always, I’d love to hear what you think. Please let me know what you reckon of the changes in the comments. If you have thoughts and suggestions I’d love to hear those too.
