Brydge’s Beta Firmware Breathes New Life Into Their Pro+ Keyboard

Brydge Pro+ Keyboard

While we were on vacation this week, I started testing out the Brydge Pro+ Keyboard. Again. Due to lack of updates, I eventually gave up on the first one I bought and it ended up in a drawer. I had high hopes when it was announced, but that was before Apple released its official trackpad support and Magic Keyboard last spring.

A Week After I Gave Up on Brydge and Their Pro+ Keyboard, They Finally Start Moving Forward Again

Brydge Pro+ Keyboard

A few weeks ago, I was looking through some of my older devices and accessories and decided to clean house a bit. Anything I didn’t need was either offered up here for the cost of shipping, or on eBay. My Brydge Pro+ has been collecting dust for several months now, so it definitely made the list.

Brydge Updates the Pro+ Firmware Again: It’s Getting Better Slowly

Brydge Pro+

So I’ll give Brydge credit for one thing. They are working really fast to try to get the Pro+’s trackpad working better. They shipped their second firmware update for the device today, courtesy of their free Brydge Connect app. If you have a Pro+, just update the app in the App Store, run it with your Pro+ plugged into a power supply and run the update.

The Brydge Pro+ Bluetooth Keyboard with Trackpad Arrives

Brydge Pro+ in boxWhile all eyes, including my own, have been focused on Apple’s Magic Keyboard, Brydge has been starting to ship their new Pro+ Bluetooth Keyboard and Trackpad. While it was announced and preorders opened before iPadOS 13.4 and the Magic Keyboard were unveiled, Apple still beat them to market, putting them at a bit of a disadvantage. That’s the game, I guess.

Apple’s New Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro Shakes Things Up

I have wanted Apple to go all out and give us their version of a standard laptop keyboard for the iPad Pro for a while now. Even if you like the Smart Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Folio, they aren’t what I’m talking about. Those were thin, light and mobile at the expense of all else. You know, things like backlit keys. Or a key mechanism. ANY key mechanism at all.

Apple Releases New iPad Pros for Preorder and Announces New Magic Keyboard

So Apple didn’t waste any time after accidentally leaking their new iPad Pro models a couple of days ago, releasing them this morning at Apple.com. As expected with all of the rumors and leaks, they have refreshed both the 11″ and 12.9″ models with new processors and cameras. Both models are available for preorder today, with the 11″ model starting at $799 and the 12.9″ version at $999.

Apple May be Adding a Trackpad to the Smart Keyboard- Called It!

I will be the first to admit that I don’t have a great track record with predictions. That’s probably because I tend to swing for the fence a lot. No guts, no glory, right? Well, that philosophy leads to a fair amount of strikeouts. However, it will also net you some home runs, as well.

I can’t help but feel like I got one thanks to yesterday’s report from The Information that Apple will be adding a trackpad to the Smart Keyboard. Before getting into the details of that, let’s check the tape for a moment.

Brydge is Releasing a New iPad Pro Keyboard with Trackpad

I love a good, creative Kickstarter or Indiegogo story, but I love it even more when an accessory maker with the chops to really deliver goes all out and brings something unique to the table. Brydge has been a step ahead of the pack when it comes to high quality keyboards for the iPad Pro for a couple of years and now they are pushing the limits even further. Their new Brydge Pro+ will be the first iPad Pro keyboard case from an established manufacturer to include a built-in trackpad.

The Apple Store is Selling Brydge Keyboards for iPads

If you’ve ever been interested in looking at a Brydge Keyboard in person, you’re in luck.

I’ve been a big fan of the Brydge Keyboard since I got one for my 12.9″ iPad Pro earlier this year. However, they don’t come cheap at $169.99 retail. That’s a lot to take on faith when you are interested in testing the waters, but you aren’t totally convinced that a product is right for you. It worked out for me, but you can’t always count on that.

Looking for a Great Keyboard for Your iPad? The Brydge is On Sale Now

I’ve been a big fan of my Brydge Bluetooth Keyboard for the 12.9″ iPad Pro since I got one back in July. So much so that my Pro rarely gets used without it now. I gave it a brief overview this Summer right after getting it and came away very impressed. My opinion hasn’t changed over the months since.

The keys are close to the same size, spacing and quality that you get with a good laptop keyboard. The key action is responsive and has a pleasing feedback. The backlight is bright. The docking clips allow you to position the iPad at almost any angle you choose. Their Silver, Space Gray and Gold are a perfect match for each iPad color. It’s just a great product, all the way around. The magnetic cover that protects the back of the iPad is a nice touch, as well.

The Brydge Pro is the Best iPad Keyboard I’ve Ever Used

I’ve heard about the Brydge Keyboard for the iPad for years and seen the glowing reviews. However, I have typically stuck with products from ZAGG and Logitech, as they tend to be a little less expensive and provide more coverage as cases. The main thing that kept me from trying the more expensive Brydge was the fact that it was much more keyboard than case, leaving the back of the iPad completely exposed. The other cases I tried had very good keyboards and provided excellent protection, making them better overall choices for me at the time.
