The HomePod is Selling Better But Not Gaining Ground

The HomePod story over the 2019 Holiday quarter was a double-edged sword for Apple. On the good news front, sales of the HomePod grew an impressive 62% year over year in the 4th quarter. Not so good is the fact that Apple still isn’t making up any ground in the smart speaker market, as they remain in 6th place with only 4.7% of the current market.

Apple New Year’s Resolutions

Another year has ended and a new one has begun. In the time honored tradition of marking the beginning of a another trip around the sun, it’s time  to make some New Year’s Resolutions. Apple is Finally Getting Behind HomeKit

It appears that Apple has finally gotten serious about HomeKit over the last year. It’s about time. Like the Apple TV, this is a business that Apple beat the competition to by miles but then sat on that lead without moving forward. Ultimately, they were passed up in both streaming content devices and Home Automation. The reasons were different, but the outcomes unfortunately the same.

Apple Turned Back the Clock at CES 2019

It was almost like 2008-2012. We all know Apple never shows up to CES, but they never really had to. There was a time when, no matter what happened at the show, they were still the main story. The show floor would be packed to the gills with iPhone accessories and apps. In the first years of the iPad, when it launched in the late Winter and Spring, it dominated the conversation among the tech press.

Apple Slices- WWDC Delivered the Goods


What a week it has been. Apple has definitely made the most of its time in the spotlight, grabbing the media’s attention and showing us that they can still innovate, be aggressive, and even listen to what users are asking for from time to time. While all may not be perfect, and there are still questions to answer, iOS 11 looks REALLY good, and the new iPad Pro features are a huge upgrade. As for the HomePod, let’s reserve judgement until we at lease see it in a closer to final form.

Beyond all the great software and hardware announcements, which I will get into in greater depth soon, there is other Apple news of note to look into. Let’s get to it.
