Here’s one little cosmetic change in the latest iOS 6.1 update for the iPad. The media control bar on the iPad lock screen has been redesigned.

I think it the new look is a bit sleeker and more elegant. I like it.

Yesterday Apple released iOS 6.0.2, an update to the latest version of the iPad’s operating system. The details list for the update is about as minimal as possible, but it does list this item:
Fixes a bug that could impact WiFi
It’s said that this update will fix WiFi problems that some iPad mini and iPhone 5 users have been experiencing.
I’ve not had any WiFi issues at all on my iPad mini. Have any of you? If so, has this 6.0.2 update helped and fixed those? Let us know in the comments.
iOS 6 brings over 200 new features to the iPad and other iDevices. It also takes away some notable things – Google Maps and YouTube just to name two high-profile takeaways.
The new version of the iPad operating system also takes away a number of features in the iPad App Store. One of those I’ve just noticed today is the ability to gift an app to someone. You used to be able to do this, and I find it a very handy feature – as it’s often the quickest way for me to get an interesting new app onto my daughter’s iPad.
Sadly, for now you can’t do this on the iPad, or any iOS device, in iOS 6 – as confirmed in this Apple support document. I hope that this feature will be coming back in iOS 6, and it’s notable that the wording in the support document states that this feature is currently not available. Also, as you can see in the screenshot above, there’s a vacant space in the Share popover where a gifting button could slot in.
iOS 6 – the latest version of the iPad’s operating system – boasts over 200 new features, but it also takes away a few things. One of the those that has drawn a lot of attention is the built-in YouTube app. That app is no longer around on the iPad or other iDevices that have updated to iOS 6.
I know many people miss the YouTube app, but I have to say I never liked it much at all. I found it had choppy and tough to watch video streaming far too often. For a long time now I’ve used a number of iPad video apps which I think are much better options.
So for any of you who are missing the YouTube app in iOS 6 here’s my suggested list of the best apps to take its place. All of these apps have AirPlay support (except Hulu Plus), some social / sharing elements, and great video content pulled from a great range of sources:
It looks like iOS 6 has a very high adoption rate among iPad users, just two weeks after it’s release. The latest numbers from the Chitika advertising network show that no less than 45% of iPad users are already running iOS 6.
The same report shows that 60% of iPhones are already running iOS 6. Here’s a little detail on how the data was complied:
