KatanaJack

Katana Jack is a fun-looking new iPad game set to launch on the App Store later this week, on November 17. What’s unique and fascinating about the game is that it’s the ‘first game painted on the iPad to be played on the iPad’.

Here’s a little more detail on the game itself and the wonderful artwork for it:

All of the photorealistic artwork was finger-painted by Xoan Baltar using Brushes for iPad and the game shows how this artwork was created with 28 included videos.

Katana Jack is a great tribute to the classical platform game "Bomb Jack" and will let you relive the adventures of Jack going through the most beautiful scenery in Japan.

Xoan Baltar is an incredible digital artist who is a long-time favorite of mine. I featured some of his amazing work on the iPhone way back when I started my little Just iPhone Art site back in 2009. I love the idea that his amazing artwork, all created on an iPad, will now light up a new iPad game. I’m not much of a gamer, but I’ll buy this one just to enjoy the art.

Katana Jack will be released on November 17 as a universal app for both iPad and iPhone, and will be priced at $0.99. Look out for it – and in the meantime check out the game’s site for a video demo, details on features, and lots of screenshots.

The iPad is said by some to be just about consuming information – browsing the web, checking on email, a device for consumption, not creation. Kyle Lambert, a UK-based freelance artist, is one of the many amazing ‘fingerpainters’ who did not get the memo as they say.

His series of portraits done with the superb Brushes app are just amazing, as you can see from the video above of Kyle fingerpainting Rihanna. Yet another example of the endless potential of the iPad.

AutumnTintsbyuchiuchi

I’ve mentioned some of the work being done by renowned artists like David Hockney on iPads and iPhones here before. I find myself continually astounded at the beautiful working being done by ‘fingerpainters’ (their term, not mine) on the iPad and iPhone.

Images like the one shown above, ‘Autumn Tints’ by Yoshiyuki Uchida, are just stunning to me. So I thought I’d do a quick little post to say if you haven’t already checked out our little ‘baby sister’ site, Just iPhone Art, you might want to give it a look – here: http://justiphoneart.com/

It’s full of amazing paintings and drawings created on apps like Brushes on iPads and iPhones. You can also just go to Flickr and search for Brushes galleries, iPad art, and fingerpainters. If you enjoy art, you’re sure to be pleasantly surprised (or shocked even) by the artwork being created on these new digital canvases.

HockneyiPadExhibition

David Hockney – one of Britain’s best-known and most acclaimed contemporary artists – has a new show in Paris. It’s called ‘Fleurs Fraiches’ (Fresh Flowers) and features his floral paintings created on iPhone and iPad. The work is displayed not on canvas, but on numerous iPads on the exhibition hall walls.

In a recent article on the show and Hockney’s conversion to iDevices, the BBC refers to him as ‘the boyish grand old man of Pop Art’. Here’s how impressed Hockney is with the iPad’s role in his art:

Who wouldn’t want one? Picasso or Van Gogh would have snapped one up …

For lots more detail on Hockney’s new show and his thoughts on art and iDevices, check out my post at my little sister site: http://justiphoneart.com/digital-art-events-and-shows/hockney-on-the-allure-of-the-ipad-for-artists-picasso-or-van-gogh-would-have-snapped-one-up/

Poppy Field by Corliss Blakely

Corliss Blakely is an accomplished and recognized artist, and is now rapidly becoming a famous iPad and iPhone artist.  The UK’s Telegraph newspaper has recently featured her beautiful iPad art in an article, noting that they could easily be mistaken for oil paintings or watercolors – despite having been created entirely with fingers and iPad apps.

Corliss is also a very good friend of the site, or of mine I should say really.  She was even kind enough to create the site banner image for my little site that covers iPhone and iPad art.

Amazing Portrait Done on the iPad

July 26, 2010

I’ve long been a fan of art done on the iPhone and iPad.  I even started a site all about it.  I’m continually amazed at the stunning images that are produced by ‘fingerpainting’ on iDevices. One of the latest examples – that I’ve been meaning to post about for ages – is David Kassan‘s portrait [...]

iPad As Drawing Pad and ‘Universal Machine’

May 16, 2010

David Hockney – one of Britain’s most acclaimed and accomplished artists – is now creating art on the iPad. Last year Hockney adopted the iPhone as his primary canvas for new art, and this year he has graduated to the iPhone’s new big brother. London’s Evening Standard newspaper has a great article up reporting on [...]
