ZAGG Announces 2 New iPad mini Keyboard Cases

ZAGGKeys Folio for iPad mini

ZAGG has announced two brand new iPad mini keyboard cases – the ZAGGKeys Folio and the ZAGGKeys Cover. The pitch for both of them is lead with this set of questions:

Your mini can do some pretty amazing things. But…

Can it stand on its own?
Can it increase your typing speed?
Can it protect itself?

Now it can.

The ZAGGKeys Folio, as the name suggests, is a full folio case plus keyboard for the iPad mini, offering full body coverage. The ZAGGKeys Cover is a cover plus keyboard with a cover that can be locked behind when you’re in reading or viewing mode on the iPad mini.

Both of these new keyboard cases claim to offer 30% more typing space than the competition and 135 degrees of viewing via a ‘unique hinge’ that allows for adjusting to best viewing angles for whatever mode you’re in.

ZAGG have been among the leading providers of iPad keyboard cases for sometime now, but their ZAGGKeys Mini 9 keyboard case and cover for the iPad mini, released earlier this year, was a very poor effort. I did a review of the ZAGGKeys Mini 9 back in March and gave it a big ‘Not Recommended’ thumbs down, due to some very sloppy design and major flaws.

I hope and expect that these new iPad mini cases will be much improved. I may try one of them out once I get through reviewing a few other iPad mini cases I’ve had for a while now.

You can check out more details on these two new ZAGG keyboard cases and place orders at the ZAGG product pages for them.

Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for iPad mini: Quick First Impressions

Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for iPad mini

The Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for iPad mini is another accessory I’ve been looking forward to trying out – especially after my hugely disappointing experience with the ZAGGkeys Mini 9 keyboard case for the iPad mini.

The Logitech Ultrathin arrived two days ago and yesterday I spent a little time just giving it a first look and typing session. So I thought I’d share a few quick early thoughts on it. Here they are, in no particular order:

– Boy does this case make a good first impression. It looks just gorgeous. I chose a black model and it matches up nearly perfectly with the slate back of the iPad mini.

– It feels great too – very light and nicely living up to the Ultrathin name.

– The iPad mini is attached and detached from it easily – it works almost like a Smart Cover in this respect (and supports automatic sleep/wake).

– The iPad mini also slots in nice and secure to the built-in stand that also uses magnets.

Review: ZAGGkeys Mini 9 Keyboard Case & Cover: Not Recommended

ZAGGkeys Mini 9 keyboard case for iPad mini

The ZAGGkeys Mini 9 is a new iPad mini keyboard case and cover combo from the team at ZAGG. In the past, ZAGG keyboard cases have been my favorite for the iPad, largely due to their excellent keyboards with generous key spacing.

For the iPad mini ZAGG recently released two variants of the ZAGGkeys Mini – the ZAGGkeys Mini 7 and Mini 9. The Mini 9 offers a standard sized ZAGG keyboard, the Mini 7 has a ‘compact’ keyboard layout. I had been looking forward to seeing ZAGG release a keyboard case for the iPad mini and eagerly awaited the arrival of my ZAGGkeys Mini 9 (which I’ll just refer to as the Mini 9 from here on) – and unfortunately it’s been all downhill and disappointment ever since it arrived on my doorstep.

Notes

Here are some of the notable features ZAGG lists for the ZAGGkeys Mini 9:

  • Great for the iPad mini
  • Identical keyboard size, design, and layout as ZAGG’s award-winning tablet keyboards
  • Island-style keys engineered to provide 90% of the space of a traditional keyboard
  • Dedicated special function keys
  • Cradles the iPad mini providing a durable case protecting both the iPad mini and keyboard

It comes in black or white models. I ordered the black.

The Mini 9 goes for $89.99 directly from ZAGG.

Cool Things: Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard for iPad mini

Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard mini

The Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard mini is the company’s shiny new ultrathin keyboard cover for the iPad mini. Logitech’s Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for the iPad 2,3, and 4 has been a hugely popular accessory – so extending the line to accommodate the iPad mini makes perfect sense.

I did a review of the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard for iPad last year and was not impressed, because the magnets just didn’t hold my iPad securely.  I’ve since seen a number of stellar reviews for the Logitech Ultrathin, including several from writers I know and trust – so I imagine I was just unlucky in receiving one of the early units that somehow slipped through with faulty magnets.

In any case, I’m quite keen to give this keyboard cover a try on the iPad mini. I was going to take a look at pre-ordering one today, but so far I can only find the pre-order available for Canada.

For now, the best link I have it this one for the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard mini product page, where pre-orders are available if you live in Canada.

Please leave a comment if you’ve found any links for USA or international pre-orders.

Coming Soon: ZAGG Keyboard Cases for iPad mini

ZAGGkeys mini

ZAGG are amongst the leading makers of iPad keyboard cases. In my experience their keyboards are the best out there when it comes to these combo keyboard cases for the iPad.

It’s good to see that they’ve announced new ZAGGkeys Mini keyboard cases designed specifically for the iPad mini. There are two models – the ZAGGkeys Mini 7 and Mini 9. Here’s the brief introductions for each of them:

ZAGGkeys MINI 7:

Island-style keys in a sleek and unique layout provide maximum finger space in a compact Bluetooth® keyboard, perfect for accentuating the utility and convenience of iPad mini.

ZAGGkeys MINI 9:

Island-style keys with a carefully engineered layout to provide the same spacing as ZAGG’s traditional tablet keyboard. The compact Bluetooth® keyboard is perfect for accentuating the utility and convenience of iPad mini.

So the Mini 9 is a bit larger keyboard with more generous key spacing, which is always a good thing. Both models come with a durable hard case that doubles as a stand and protects both the iPad mini and the keyboard.

Both of these cases go for $89.99 and are listed as coming soon. You can check out full details on them and to submit an email form to be notified when they’re available at the ZAGG product pages for the ZAGGkeys Mini 7 and ZAGGkeys Mini 9.
