Notable New iPad Apps: Camera+ for iPad

Camera for iPad

Camera+ has been one of the leading camera apps on the iPhone for a long while – and now it has come to the iPad. Camera+ for iPad was released in the iPad App Store yesterday and my friend and writing colleague Thomas Wong described it as a supremely big deal. He sent me a rapid-fire series of texts yesterday afternoon outlining one of its best features, which is its iCloud sync between its iPhone and iPad apps

Shoot on iPhone, edit on iPad. Workflow very easy and simple. Changes show up on both devices. iPad version has more editing power too. It’s like iPhoto for iOS, but much easier to use.

Here are some of the key, iPad-only,  features of Camera+ for iPad:

★ NEW iCloud sync…
The new iCloud sync in Camera+ automatically syncs your Lightbox photos between all of your devices. Shoot all day on your iPhone, and then edit all night on your iPad.
★ Brush on effects… iPad ONLY
Now you can brush on (or off) each effect with your finger so you apply it only where you want. You can set the brush size, softness and intensity for ultimate control.
★ Layer effects… iPad ONLY
Layer two or more effects to create your own unique results. Adjust the intensity of each layer and drag and drop to change the order. Why not mix “So Emo” with “Tailfins”? You have great taste, now prove it!

PhotoForge2 Updated – Now Supports iPad

iPadDisplayNeonEffect

PhotoForge2 – the powerful and versatile photo editing / effects app – has just been updated and has added full support for the iPad. The update, to Version 2.1, makes it a universal app, designed for both the iPad and the iPhone.

I mentioned PhotoForge2 in my recent rundown of the best photo editing apps for iPad, even before this update was released – as I knew it was due soon, and knew the app was a powerhouse that was worthy of making the list.

One of the headline features in PhotoForge2 is support for layers:

Create new layers from any photo or create an empty layer that can be filled with color. Change the layer’s blend mode and opacity, or rotate and transform it. Reorder and change layer visibility with ease. Add a mask to your layer to simply paint away portions you don’t want to see.

The app has a slick UI and a strong range of effects, editing tools, and features. It allows you to save in JPEG, PNG and TIFF. PNG and TIFF formats will maintain any transparency in images. Its export/share options include Flickr, Twitter, Facebook, Dropbox, Picasa, Tumblr, and FTP.

I’ve only spent a short while with PhotoForge2, but I can already see that it’s a hugely capable app that will get frequent use on my iPad.

Here’s an App Store link for PhotoForge2; it’s priced at $1.99.

Photogene for iPad Updated – Adds Collage Maker, Localized Effects and More

iPad2LaunchCollage

Photogene for iPad – one of the best photo editing / photo effects apps for the iPad – has been updated this week, to Version 3.00.

Two of the big new features added in this update are Localized Effects and Collage Maker. Localized Effects is the ability to apply filters or color adjustments by just ‘painting’ them onto specific areas of an image. Collage Maker lets you select 4-6 photos or images and make a collage out of them. You get three standard collage templates to work with, and another six are available to buy via In-App purchase.

The localized effects feature is easy to use and works nicely. The collage maker is also easy to use and lots of fun. I was able to throw together the one used at the top of this post, with photos from the iPad 2 launch day here in Austin, in just a couple minutes.

Quick Hint: You need to allow Photogene for iPad to use your location, via Settings > Location Services, in order for the collage maker to work.

Photogene for iPad Updated Again, Adds Upload to Dropbox

PhotogeneforiPad

Photogene for iPad – the excellent photo effects / image manipulation app – has had another small update, to Version 2.10.

The update is mostly bug fixes and some minor enhancements, but there is one notable and impressive new feature: the ability to upload edited photos directly to Dropbox. Dropbox is by far and away the best online file sync and backup service I’ve ever come across, so this is a really great new feature to see added to Photogene for iPad.

The app also had big recent update to version 2.0 – with lots of impressive new features added.

You can find this latest version of Photogene for iPad in the App Store now, priced at $3.99.
